The 10 Girl Scout Essentials • Welcome families to Girl Scouts of USA • Show girls they belong to a big sisterhood • Guide girls to develop as leaders • Empower girls to take action in their communities • Support girls to build skills through proficiency badges • Expand girls’ view of the world • Celebrate with ceremonies and traditions • Use a girl friendly approach • Encourage girls to learn and earn through the Girl Scout product sale program • Inspire girls to continue growing through Girl Scouts

Girl Scout Leadership Experience Math 3 Keys + 3 Processes + 10 Essentials = 15 Outcomes Girls participating in activities and experiences lead to the GSLE Outcomes: Travel Badges Mentoring Awards Camping (Camp Scherman) Outdoors/Nature Take Action Journeys Community Service Financial Literacy Product Program Highest Awards High Adventure STEM Experiences Career Exploration Healthy Living

Percentage of Youth involved in Risk-Taking BehaviorGirl Scouts are less likely to engage in risk taking behavior if fully engaged in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience Similar pattern with tobacco use, depression and suicide attempts, school problems, driving and alcohol use, and gambling 23 Assets connected to GSLE Outcomes; 24-40 Assets girls achieve in school, family, etc.

  6. Surveys Sent via Email June 2014 Sent to all current email addresses on file; 19,999 sent – which is 89% of girl membership. Are your girls in the system so we can count their opinions too?

  7. Response Rate 4% improvement over 2013 Even though not all the girls took the survey, the number that participated is significant enough so that data is relative to all girls in the Girl Scouts of Orange County.

  11. Take Aways & Take Action Girls participating in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, under your amazing leadership, are achieving the 15 GSLE Outcomes. YOU are equipping them with the skills, values and behaviors they need to be leaders in their own lives and to change the world! Based on youth development research connected to the 15 Outcomes we know that girls in Girl Scouts of Orange County, who fully participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, are more apt to delay gratification, be successful in school, maintain good health, and are less inclined to get involved with drugs and alcohol. What you do matters!!!! So…what is next?! What will you do next, what are your next take action steps, how can we strengthen the collection and usage of the data…?!!!
