  2. Welcome • Introductions • Share one Ambassador activity that you have done recently or are planning to do soon • Have you been able to engage anyone new into the Initiative?

  3. DCP Ambassador Reimbursements • New Process – Service Agreements • Reimbursements: • $25 - $150, depending on activity and travel required • No longer paying for meals or mileage separately • Hotel costs will be separate • Written Follow-Up Required for Payment

  4. Written Follow-Up for Webinars Should include: • 3 key issues or messages • Plan to use the information • Email to erin.drinnin@idph.iowa.gov

  5. Initiative Updates • Online Core is Live! http://directcare.training-source.org/ • Certificate Exams Free – through at least June 30, 2014 • Applications open for Instructor Trainings • March 26-28: Davenport • April 9-11: Des Moines

So… What should I be talking about? • Direct care is a high demand profession • Recruitment and retention challenges: • High turnover • Lack of standardized training • Low pay; very little recognition • Direct Care Worker Advisory Council recommended standardized training and credentials issued by a licensing board, based on research

  8. What should I be talking about? Cont. • Board has not been created, but challenges remain and demand is bigger than ever • Need 20,000 more DCPs between now and 2020 • Prepare to Care is the state’s first ever comprehensive direct care curriculum. • Standardized training with state-issued certificates • Legislative charge to make it available statewide

  9. What should I be talking about? Cont. • Ongoing challenges: • Difficult to implement a standardized training without requirements for DCPs or employers • Outreach: getting word out to DCPs and employers • Making direct care an appealing career that people want to go into and stay in – the Board credentials would’ve helped elevate the profession
