  5. Students’ Responses to Us and to the Lessons… • The students responded well to us and seemed to enjoy the lessons. • The were excited when we walked in the door. • They participated well in the lessons and ended up getting a good understanding of each Native American Tribe that we went over.

  6. Interaction between the Team and the Classroom Teacher… • Interactions were few and brief • Teacher allowed us to have free reign during lessons • Teacher did not offer up advice or insight about her students

LESSON THREE • Lead Teacher: Jackie • Getting to know the Kiowa and Coastal Native Americans • Social Studies, Grade 4 • TEKS 1.B:compare the ways of life of Native-American groups in Texas and the Western Hemisphere before European exploration • English Language Arts and Reading, Grade 4 • TEKS 18.B:write letters whose language is tailored to the audience and purpose (e.g., a thank you note to a friend) and that use appropriate conventions (e.g., date, salutation, closing)

Students work productively with other in teams. Students continue to apply earlier standards with greater complexity. Students are expected to participate in teacher-and student-led discussion by posing and answering questions with appropriate detail and by providing suggestions that build upon the ideas of others.

LESSON FIVE • Lead Teacher: Sara • An Interview with Texas Native Americans • Social Studies, Grade 4 • TEKS 1.B:compare the ways of life of Native-American groups in Texas and the Western Hemisphere before European exploration • English Language Arts and Reading, Grade 4 • TEKS 25:students clarify research questions and evaluate and synthesize collected information. Students are expected to improve the focus of research as a result of consulting expert sources.
