  3. In Year 5 we try to promote…. • Independence and taking responsibility. All the children have been given class jobs and are encouraged to work more independently. Year 5 also have the important job of helping their Reception Twin settle into school. • Playground Pals

  4. Homework DiariesHomework will include Reading, Times Tables, learning Spellings for a test on Fridays, optional research tasks, projects, as well as Time to Talk Homework and a worksheet on a Friday. Please check Homework diaries and sign weekly

  5. TALK HOMEWORK

  6. Learning Logs • Topic Based • Recount Based (i.e. Holidays). • Event Based (Stories in the media).

  7. Literacy • Reading books and reading in school. • Comprehension work. • Grammar • Speaking and Listening. • Spellings. • Shared reading and writing. • Big write – Talk for writing.

  8. Handwriting • In year five your child will continue to develop their cursive handwriting style. • They will use cursive handwriting in all their written work. • Additional handwriting work will be given to children who need it.

  9. Numeracy By Year 5 all children should be confident with the days of the week, months of the year and telling the time. • Place Value • Times Tables • Mental mathematics • Problem solving activities • Practical tasks • Supported tasks • Independent tasks

Class Talks • Talks can be about anything that the children are interested in. • They should last roughly five minutes. • Please help with any research but try not to come up with a ‘script’. • Unfortunately due to computer virus’ in school we are unable to allow children to transfer work using a USB pen.
