Public Crossings Must be negotiated with appropriate road authority State/City/County Very controversial, must have public hearings Community involvement paramount, agreement if at all possible The laws vary state to state, but in certain states we can petition state for closure. But… They are very hesitant to get involved in “local politics”
  22. Private Crossings In 2011, CSX launched a pilot program to address Private crossings. Out of 8943 private crossings on our system, less than 10% had a agreement in place for the crossing. Most were installed many years ago some with a “handshake agreement” and had no documentation. Our goal was simple, yet aggressive: Enhance safety across our system Consolidate crossings wherever possible Secure agreements where consolidation was not practicable.
