  3. The Beatitudes • Beatus means “blessed” or “happy.” • Each of the Beatitudes defines an attitude in the life • of the child of God. • 2. Jesus does not describe eight different types of people. • 3. Every child of God should possess all of these characteristics.

  4. The Beatitudes 4. “Blessed” does not mean that the follower of God is necessarily happy or prosperous. 5. Holiness does not guarantee earthly wealth or happiness. 6. The beatitudes reflect the presence of the Kingdom in our lives. 7. The Beatitudes indicate a right relationship with God. • In words and actions • In attitudes and relationships

  5. The Beatitudes Structure: Similar to Ten Commandments Ten Commandments • I – V deal with man’s obligations to God. • VI – X deal with man’s obligation to man. • Jesus condensed the 10 commandments to 2: 1. We must love God. 2. We must love our neighbor as ourselves.

Each Beatitude has three parts: • An attribution of blessedness. • A description of those who are so blessed. • A statement of the reason for their blessedness.
