General Rules For All The awards can; • fund the implementation of new innovations in the NHS, even if taken from a different industry/country and used in the NHS • the adoption of innovations implemented in a few NHS organisations e.g. less than one third of NHS organisations in the North West. The awards cannot • fund the implementation of widely available and widely adopted products/technologies or approaches that are accepted as normal practice • Fund product development or clinical trials.

  3. Enabling Change Award • Not available for R4! • Was £50-250K • Big projects across a range of teams and organisational boundaries • Award is for scalable, innovative, complex systems change, type projects • All details required are requested on application form.

  4. Bursary Award • Up to £25K • Implementation and/or evaluation of an innovative service. • Primarily for back fill of staff to enable adoption of innovation within a team or division but exclusive of ongoing operational costs following implementation

  5. Sharing Award • Up to £5K • To encourage greater understanding of the innovation, disseminate the innovation • Could be a workshops, a study day, staff time to educate others, produce education and training materials. • Could be applied for the year after your bursary project has been completed but not Enabling Change

  6. Funding • 352 applications submitted during the financial year of 2009/10. • 45 were Sharing,101 were Bursary,206 to the Enabling Change • Totalling £29,379,607 • 40 Awards have been funded totalling £1,306,794.67. • Awards are paid via PCT allocation on to the main applicant’s organisation

  9. Judging • Sifted and long listed • Go to Expert Judging Panel • On-line scoring with comments and judging days • Sharing and Bursary then to SHA for final decision • Enabling Change applicants pitch at Dragons’ Lair
