3. Man to Man • Purpose: • To help men understand the importance of Godly, strong, relationships. • Background: • Many men who meet regularly and who are friends do not really know each other. • What to Look For: • Few Christian men have friends who really know what is going on in their lives. Most men really do want this; they just don’t know how.

4. Man to Dad • Purpose: • To give men an opportunity to discuss a rare topic; their own fathers. • Background: • Many men carry around wounds that cause them grief. It is an opportunity to share one another’s burdens and leave them at the cross. • What to Look For: • In less than 20 minutes, this experience is a powerful example of how men can become “Brothers in Christ.”

5. Man to Brothers • Purpose: • To begin the process of developing open, accountable brotherhood in Christ. • Background: • Many men carry wounds that burden them greatly, but they never give other men the opportunity to help them bear their burdens. • What to Look For: • Men describing their blessing; Men expressing their troubles; An open door for men to know one another and build trust.

6. Man and Mate • Purpose: • To help men become better husbands to their wives. • Background: • Most men have, or will have, committed relationships with spouses. Men can help men improve these relationships. • What to Look For: • Men are blind to those things closest to them. Godly men protect each other and give Godly counsel to the man whose home life is in trouble.

7. Man to Youth • Purpose: • To help men be better fathers and men for their children and youth in their lives. • Background: • All men need to be aware of the youth for which God will hold them accountable. • What to Look For: • Many UMMen have few if any active relationships with youth. Both youth and men miss the blessing provided by these relationships.

8. Man as Son • Purpose: • To help men become better adult sons. • Background: • Every man has parents or PERSONS who had a profound influence on them as boys. • What to Look For: • Every man was shaped in important ways early in life. It is good to remember these persons. Every man wants to be this important person to others.

9. Family Servant • Purpose: • To help men become servant leaders of their families and loved ones. • Background: • Most men want to serve their families. In many cases what a family needs from a man is not what he is giving them. • What to Look For: • God says he in #1, our families are next in line. They deserve the best of what we have to offer.

10. Pastor Servant • Purpose: • To help men become better servants of their pastor, and other leaders, within their local churches. • Background: • Pastors are always on the firing line and they are often stretched and stressed. UMMen are called to make special efforts to serve clergy as servant leaders. • What to Look For: • Divisiveness and petty bickering within the congregation are cancer to the Body. UMMen can decide to be a force for unity and harmony within the Body of Christ.

11. Man at Work • Purpose: • To help men serve Christ by serving others at works. • Background: • For most men, ministry opportunities are greatest at work because that is where they spend most of their time. • What to Look For: • When men decide to simply help someone with no strings attached, genuine Christian love is demonstrated.

12. Man in Mission • Purpose: • To help men see a mission opportunity nearby. • Background: • A few are called to faraway places, while the rest of us are called to local mission work. • What to Look For: • Men are naturally ready for “project” work. Some mission work is underway. Other needs may be revealed to UMMen by inspiration.

14. Action Plan • 1. Form men in groups of three. • 2. Three topics are presented one at a time. • 3. Each man is given two minutes (sometimes one minute) per round to discuss each topic. • Note: The leader must time each of these discussions. When the time has elapsed, give the next man opportunity to answer the round's question. When the round is over, read the next question out loud and tell them how long they have. Encourage brevity and full participation. Don't give explanations, let them figure it out.

15. What to look for • This paragraph is a guide to the leader to assist in keeping focused on the topics.

16. Scriptures to Use • Each program has one or more scriptures that apply to that particular program • They can be read or discussed anywhere in the program that the leader thinks it is most effective

17. What to Pray For • Each program includes on opportunity to have a prayer, or prayers, regarding the topics • Typically: • Have each man pray for a specific topic (round robin) • Have each man pray for the man on his right

18. How to Follow Up • This is probably the most important part • Typical items for follow up include: • Video tapes that can be watched individually or in groups • Meet in small groups to discuss further actions that can be taken • Make a commitment to pray for people by name • The Pastor • My son • My coworker • List of loved ones
