  1. Journal Assignment: Responds should be between 5-7 sentences. • Think back to your childhood and recall your earliest memory. Include stories told by family, and the roles that such memories serve in shaping an individual’s identity.

  2. Memory and Thought Chapter 10.1- Taking in and Storing Information

  3. The Storage and retrieval of what has been learned or experienced is Memory.

  4. Three Stages of Memory • Sensory Memory: the senses of sight and hearing( among others senses) that are able to hold an input for a fraction of a second before it disappears. Serves three functions: • Prevents you from being overwhelmed • Gives you some decision time • Allow for continuity and stability in your world

  5. Short- Term Memory( Working Memory) • Things you have in your conscious mind at any one moment, and does not involve paying close attention. • To keep short-term memory for a few second, you repeat the information to yourself or out loud; This is know as maintenance rehearsal. • Chunking is the process of grouping items to make them easier to remember; this is a trick to memorizing a lot of information quickly; it is only temporary and without rehearsal last for less than 20 seconds.

  6. Long- Term Memory • The storage of information over extended periods of time; the capacity of long-term memory appears to be limitless, and contains representation of countless facts, experiences, and sensations.
