  1. Ocean geophysical results from ASAR • Geophysical overview • ocean spectra : the isidore case • inversion on single look complex images • prospective studies : doppler anomaly • conclusions

  2. annual swell index annual significant wave height

  3. swell index for autumn season

  4. Imagette visualisation

  5. Imagette spectrum visualisation

  6. Sar inversion (esa algorithm)

  7. Collocated WAM spectrum

  8. Hurricane isidore from NOAA Sept 23 ASAR/MERIS Sept 21

  9. ASAR Wave Mode, Level 2 algorithm

  10. ASAR intensity imageduring Valparaiso experiment (cetp) oct 26

  11. Sigma0 ECMWF (dB) calibration constant : -47.55 dB based on september data Imagette mean intensity (dB)

  12. doppler centroid anomaly • Two different tracks

  13. Doppler centroid anomaly on Wave mode level1b (descending tracks)

  14. Doppler centroid anomaly (ascending tracks)

  15. ASAR intensity imageduring Valparaiso experiment (cetp) oct 26

  16. (triggered by a doppler-map case study from Andrea Monti-Guarnieri in 2000) Doppler anomaly mapsome block processing issues !

  17. Doppler centoid (Hz) Ocean Land

  18. Comparison with a similar ERS 2 SLC image doppler centroid analysis

  19. Doppler estimated on range compressed data saturation on rapidly changing backscatter area !

  20. Wind Doppler estimated on range and azimuth compressed data

  21. Doppler anomaly chart

  22. CONCLUSION • overall very excellent quality of asar data • need for another 3 month validation with buoys and model for level 2 • doppler anomaly estimation require precise orbit and attitude monitoring
