  3. Aims of Enrichment Placement To create resources for the school for when Modern Foreign Languages becomes compulsory at Key Stage 2 in September 2013 To introduce Key Stage 2 pupils to simple beginner’s Spanish

  4. Topics resourced for: • Greetings • Introductions • Asking how other people feel/answer • Numbers 1-20 • Months • Birthdays • Days of the week • Family members • Weather • Transport

  5. Activities in lessons: Games- snakes and ladders, slap, noughts and crosses, guessing games Speaking surveys- talking to each other Cross curricular- simple maths equations in Spanish *signs around school*

  6. Results within school Great enthusiasm from pupils and staff- something different and new Some of the more ‘difficult’ pupils engaged Some of the less able pupils making excellent progress in comparison to literacy where they might struggle- find yourself differentiating for pupils who might not normally need extra help Pupils using target language around school to their usual class teachers (and me) and eager to do more to impress their parents/family at home

  7. What needs to be done to ensure the success of MFL at KS2? Resources need to be further and continuously developed by schools to keep up with pupil interest Pupils need to receive regular exposure to the target language in order to benefit from the lessons they (will) receive. The subject needs to be taught by somebody with the correct skills and experience It needs to be viewed by schools in the same light as other subjects and assessed accordingly Liaison with secondary schools to ensure progress at Key Stage 3 and beyond

  8. What did I get from the experience? I feel I made a difference – the pupils were learning and were having fun I feel I achieved in areas I was lacking in at the end of the main placement I was enjoying what I was doing again
