Mission and Purpose • The ASEAN Music Journal (AMJ) serves as a vehicle for the dissemination of research and practice related to a wide variety of music disciplines and their relevance to ASEAN nations. The content of this publication highlights topics of general interest for music teaching, learning, and performance as well as the historical and developmental aspects of music in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. AMJ is the prime medium for dialogue and exchange between music researchers interested in Southeast Asia as well as its place in the world forum. Issues of the publication focusing on specific topics may be developed if the need arises. • This peer-reviewed journal serves the scholarly community interested in best practices and original research focused specifically on Southeast Asia. • This unique journal encompasses scholarship and research on a full range of topics and methodologies relevant to: • Music Education Music Therapy • Music Theory Music Composition • Ethnomusicology Musicology • Music Performance Community Music • Music in General Studies Music and Technology • Music Business and Industry • Important issues that are currently being addressed within the profession.

  3. Publication Schedule ASEAN Music Journal (AMJ) is an “online first” journal with forthcoming articles published online prior to print. There will one issue per year with a limited printing of hardcopies each annum. It is the intent to make this journal open source for the initial three issues (2013, 2014, 2015) with subscriptions commencing with the 2016 issue. The journal will be published through Mahidol University College of Music (Thailand).

  5. Criteria for Thailand Higher Education Journal Approval 1. Editorial board needs to consist of at least one professor or faculty holding doctoral degree from outside the institution(s) the journal is published (Mahidol University). 2. Peer-review reader needs to be specialist in the area that the article is written who is an active researcher who has published the article in that field. 3. 10% of the articles in the journal need to come from institution(s) other than publisher. 4. Half of the Reader(s) for article evaluation need to come from institution(s) other than publisher. 5. Quality assurance will be conducted every 2 years 6. Every article needs to have an abstract. 7. The Journal needs to be issued on-time. 8. The Journal needs to contain a book review or article review.

  6. Editorial Procedures • The Editor(s) of AMJ typically send electronic acknowledgment of each contribution immediately upon receipt of the manuscript. Within one to two weeks, the Editor sends each contribution to two or more members of the Editorial Board; reviewers are typically given three to four weeks to return each review. The Editor will make every effort to notify the contributor of the results of the review within 12 weeks. The Editor(s) have the final decision to accept or reject each contribution and to determine the extent of revision needed for each manuscript. Please direct questions or ideas to the Editor(s).

  7. Call for Applications for Editorial Board Member • Applications are being accepted for individuals to serve on the Editorial Board of the ASEAN Music Journal. This annual refereed journal publishes scholarly reports that enhance knowledge regarding the teaching and learning of music with a special interest toward an international constituency and of interest and relevance to the international community.

  8.   9. The success of this journal is entirely dependent upon manuscript submissions. Please encourage your faculty, colleagues, graduate students, and alumni to support this journal by submitting manuscripts.
