  1. Earthquake in Fiji By: Nike Zimmermenn

  2. Where did it happen? • The earthquake occurred on the 9th of November 2009 at 10:44, between Tonga and Fiji. • The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.2 .

  3. What happened? • The earthquake happened because the Pacific plate and the Australian plate converged. • The Pacific plate went under the Australian.

  4. What was the impact of it on the place? • The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii said the earthquake was too deep to trigger a destructive tsunami. • But it killed 155 people and done a moderate damage to the buildings. • Also the some communications were damaged, and they couldn’t report it immediately.

  5. Volcanic eruption in Alaska

  6. Where did it happen? • Redoubt Volcano is a stratovolcano located within a few hundred kilometers of more than half of the population of Alaska. • The Redoubt volcano erupted in March 2009.

  7. What happened? • The extent of the eruptions have not been fully determined, but reports have found ash clouds reaching as high as 65,000 feet • There were no injured but the Alaska Air needed to cancel some of the flights as a precaution.

  8. What was the impact of it on the place? • The Alaska Air needed to cancel some of the flights as a precaution. • A lava dome grew in the crater, accompanied by interminable emissions of volcanic gases and minor amounts of ash. Additional explosive events are likely and could send ash to greater than 30,000 feet above sea level. Such a cycle of dome growth and explosive dome destruction did continue for many months. The potential for lahars and other flooding down the Drift River Valley remains, as does the potential for trace to minor ash fall on communities near Redoubt.
