  2. Science Notebook What is an Interactive Notebook? • An interactive notebook (NB) is your own personalizedDIARY of learning about science. • A portfolio of your work in ONE convenient spot. This is great for studying for upcoming quizzes & tests. • A great ORGANIZATIONAL tool that gives you permission to be PLAYFUL AND CREATIVE in your responses without "messing up" your notes. • Allows you to be like a REAL SCIENTIST!

  5. The notebook is divided into TWO sections. Left Side-Right Side: WHICH SIDE? • The Left SIDEis for student work. This is the side that you can use to show your creativity. This is the “output” or product side. It expands on what you learned. • The Right SIDE is contains only information given by the teacher. Nothing else should be placed on the RIGHT SIDE!! This is the side for teaching and learning.

  6. RIGHT side is “restricted” to TEACHER INPUT LEFT side = STUDENT work = OUTPUT

  7. LEFT SIDE Your response to the day’s activity is placed on the bottom left or output side of the notebook. This section acts as a reinforcement for the right or input side. You can design the left side any way you like unless specific guidelines are given.

Examples of Left Side Assignments YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO BE AS CREATIVE AS YOU WANT TO BE • Summary • Graphic Organizers • Drawings/Illustrations • Poems, Rap Songs • Cartoons/Comics • Fictional Story • Foldables • Express Your Opinions on the Lesson • Find a podcast on the subject, listen to it and write a response

  12. RIGHT SIDE: MY SIDE • The RIGHT SIDE belongs to me and should only contain information given or “input” from the teacher. Nothing else should be placed on this page! • The RIGHT SIDE will contain all the TESTABLE material. • Input on the right side can be found on the Important Information page of my website.

  13. RIGHT SIDE The RIGHT side of the notebook contains information given to you by your teacher. This is the ESSENTIAL information that will DEFINITELY be on a quiz or test. Nothing else should go on this side.

  17. Getting Started: Step 1 My Name My Grade Science Notebook • COVER • Write Science Notebook • Your teacher’s name and class period • Your name:(self explanatory) • TWO OR MORE SCIENCE PICTURES: • You can draw, get from magazine or Internet.

  19. STEP 2 Setting up the Table of Contents and All About Me pages. All About Me should be on white paper located at the very front of the binder before any dividers.   21. STEP 3 To setup the NOTES section of the binder. The first page will be page 0 (zero) in order for the rest of the pages to line up correctly. You will number the pages in the bottom outside corner. These pages will be titled and listed in the Table of Contents. NOTES 0 1 2
