  2. Today’s Goals • Provide an overview of the FPDS-NG reporting capability • Demonstrate each of the reporting tools

Guiding Principle: A Self-Service Model • “Self-service FOIA” concept allows users to access the information they want, when they want it • Tools at the FPDS-NG website help users to learn both basic and advanced features of the reporting capability • Help features and Help Desk provide support to enable success

A Self-Service Model • Enhancements Added to Report Help • Overview and explanation of search tips for new users • Categorization of reports by business criteria for users trying to determine the best report • Detailed explanation of search criteria within each report • Additional help files in Help Library

  6. Accessing Information • The FPDS-NG information can be accessed in three different ways, depending on the information required • Advanced Search • Reports • Standard • Published • Custom (adhoc) • Batch Data Downloads • Real-time Integration

  8. Advanced Search Feature • Enables customization of search parameters • Ideal for users seeking specific information, rather than broad reports

  9. Advanced Search Feature • Access via the Advanced Search button on the FPDS-NG Reports home page

  10. Advanced Search Feature • Provides more than 15 fields for advanced searching • Additional search capabilities for 8 fields, including Agency Name, Vendor Name, NAICS Code, and Funding Agency ID

  11. Advanced Search Feature • Results returned in summary format, enabling users to easily modify search • Summary data provides Award ID, Agency and Office Name, Status, and other summary reference information

  12. Advanced Search Feature • Selecting an Award ID enables viewing of all data elements

  13. Getting the Best Results with Advanced Search • How can you make sure you are maximizing your search? • Be smart about your search. Try to narrow it down as much as possible by putting in numerous parameters. • Be patient. You are searching through more than 12 million records. Keep your searches as narrow as possible to limit the search time.

  15. Standard Reports • Enables users to pick from more than 50 standard reports • Allows for search customization within each report • Summary results include award actions and award dollars • Reports are available in PDF and CSV formats and can also be emailed

  21. Standard Reports – Help Features • Need Help Choosing A Report? • Grouping of the reports by the type of business scenario being sought, i.e., products/services, small business, socio-economic • For each scenario, a report is listed that will address the business question

  24. Standard Reports • Once you’ve selected a Standard Report, numerous search criteria choices are available: • Search Name • Department ID • Agency ID • Contracting OfficeAgency ID • Contracting Office ID • From Date • To Date

  25. Standard Reports – Help Features • Two additional Help resources available within an individual report for assistance • Business scenarios • Search criteria • Due in production on January 1

  26. Standard Reports – Help Features • Business Scenarios • Help files provide a common business question the report would be used to answer • For instance, How much business has a particular agency conducted with a vendor? • Help file shows sample screen and search criteria

  27. Standard Reports – Help Features • Search Criteria • Provides users with a description of each search criteria field within every report • Offers helpful hints about each search criteria field • Due in production on January 1

Getting the Best Results with Standard Reports • How can you make sure you identify the correct report? • Preview capability shows a sample of the report prior to actually selecting search criteria • An Appendix accompanies each report that provides detailed information • New help screens assist with finding the correct report and using the specific search criteria

  30. Published Reports • Government-wide reports will be published periodically for easy access and dissemination of large quantities of data • Reports will expand as needs are identified and will be posted • Initial reports available • Federal Procurement Report • Small Business Goaling Report

Custom (adhoc) Reports • Provides access to every data element in the system • Enables users to mine the FPDS-NG data and create their own reports by asking the database a business question • Requires that users be very aware of each data element, how they interrelate, and the values of the data • Upcoming features will include the ability to save queries and save in additional formats

Custom (adhoc) Reports • Training • It is highly recommended that users have training before using this feature • The (data dictionary) and (training manual) are available at the website at no cost • In-person training is also available for a fee • Recommended skill level • Familiarity with enterprise reporting tools • In-depth knowledge of the FPDS-NG data set and values

Custom (adhoc) Reports • Overview • Universe Objects Box – a list of objects available on the selected universe • Objects – a set of data in the database • Query tab – defines the data definition for the document by selecting objects from the universal objects and shifting them to the results objects
