  2. 閱讀測驗(一) • “Grandfather Lin Wang” was an Asian elephant that was very popular with visitors in the Taipei Zoo. He has an interesting life story. • Lin was captured at a very young age in Burma. He served the Japanese army and then the Chinese army during the war in the forties. Lin survived the war, though many elephants who worked for the army were killed in the battle. After the war, he was first taken to China and then to Taiwan, where he lived for the rest of his life and is remembered fondly by many animal lovers of Taiwan. 2008/03/12

  3. 閱讀測驗(一) • In Taiwan, Lin was first taken to the Fengshan Zoo in Kaohsiung. Later he was housed at the Yuanshan Zoo in Taipei in 1952. There, he met his lifelong friend Malan, a female Asian elephant. It was also in Yuanshan Zoo that his first birthday party was held in 1983, when he was 66 years old. Since then, his birthday was celebrated by the zoo every year on the last Sunday of October, attracting thousands of visitors and important people of the city. Lin and Malan were later moved to Mucha in 1986. 2008/03/12
