  2. PSYCH MOMENTS • THE PURPOSE OF “PSYCH MOMENTS” IS FOR STUDENTS TO MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH INFORMATION THEY LEARN IN PSYCHOLOGY CLASS AND THE “REAL WORLD” NOT THE MTV SHOW!!!

  3. WAYS TO USE PSYCH MOMENTS • PSYCH MOMENTS WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EXTRA CREDIT ON TESTS

  4. SOURCES FOR PSYCH MOMENTS • TELEVISION SHOWS • MOVIES • NEWS ITEMS • INTERNET • FRIENDS AND FAMILIES • OTHER CLASSES • BOOKS • NEWSPAPERS • SONGS

  5. EACH PSYCH MOMENT IS WORTH ONE POINT – WITH A MAXIMUM OF 5 EXTRA POINTS AVAILABLE PER TEST MUST BE SPECIFIC MUST CLEARLY ARTICULATE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TOPIC COVERED IN CLASS AND THE PSYCH MOMENT MUST BE DATED GUIDELINES FOR EXTRA CREDIT ON TESTS

CAN ONLY USE 1 PSYCH MOMENT PER TV EPISODE, MOVIE, NEWS STORY, ETC… MUST NOT BE TOO EXPLICIT – DELETE CERTAIN INAPPROPRIATE WORDS CAN’T REPEAT A PSYCH MOMENT SHOULD NOT MENTION OTHER STUDENTS’ OR TEACHERS’ NAMES IN A NEGATIVE MANNER NO PSYCH MOMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED LATE. THEY ARE DUE PRIOR TO THE TEST BEGINNING. GUIDELINES CONT’D

  7. SAMPLE PSYCH MONENT • Sat. 12/5/09 at 3:00pm “I was watching an episode of “Friends” and the gang teased Monica about having Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. She kept putting things back in order after Phoebe moved them. Obsessive-Compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder. Obsessions are thoughts and compulsions are actions. Both can be so persistent that they interfere with normal activities and can cause distress.”

  8. SAMPLE PSYCH MOMENT • THURS. DECEMBER 10TH AT 4:00pm “I was watching “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and learned that Ron has a fear of spiders. This is called arachnophobia, which is a phobia that is characterized by an irrational fear of spiders. Phobias are irrational fears that disrupt behavior and focus anxiety on a specific object or situation. Phobias are the most common form of anxiety disorders. Phobias are not the same as fears.”

The percentile score signifies the percentage of scores at or below that particular score. In my case only 14% of students scored higher than me in these subjects.”

IT’S SUBLIMINAL” (ABSOLUTE THRESHOLD) SUBLIMINAL MEANS BELOW THERSHOLD MEANING IT IS UNDETECTABLE.
