  2. What is ‘Self Esteem’? How we value ourselves Our attitude towards ourselves Our ability to manage difficult situations Our confidence in our own abilities How we see ourselves in our community and society – how we compare ourselves to others

  3. Why is Low Self Esteem Bad? With low self esteem, we sometimes do not see our achievements. Low self esteem can make us feel lonely. We want to change ourselves for others. We feel miserable. It can lead to depression, eating disorders, and alcohol/drug abuse.

  4. Questions about Self Esteem • Why is it important? • High self esteem helps you make good decisions and hold onto your values. • Can you change your self esteem? • YES! • Is it EASY to change your self esteem? • No. It takes hard work and can be a lifelong process.

  6. How Do You Change Your Self Esteem? Learn what affects your self esteem. Learn your strengths AND weaknesses. Don't compare yourself to others Set realistic goals for yourself. Celebrate your achievements. Take it one day at a time. Do your best each day.

  9. Now What? • After completing the activities, how do YOU think you can build high self esteem? • Surround yourself with positive people. • Do things that make you feel good. • Do NOT compare yourself with others. • Remember: No one is perfect. • Help others build high self esteem.
