  2. Plants • Plants can be grown from seeds. • Seeds grow into the same type of plant that made them. • Plants need water, light, air, and the right temperature in order to grow.

  3. Parts of a Plant • Seeds Make a new plant. • Roots Keep the plant in the soil. • Stem Holds the leaves up to the sun. • Leaves Make food for the plant. • Flowers Make fruit, then seeds.

  4. Seeds • Inside each seed is a baby plant called an embryo. • It is protected by a seed coat. • A seed also has a food supply. • A seed can stay dormant for a long time if it is kept dry and cool. • Dormant means the seed is sleeping or inactive.
