  2. What is flooding? Flooding is when water overflows onto dry land. A flash flood is a rapid rise of water. Flash flooding happens in 6 hours of a big rain event caused by storms.

  3. Areas at risk from flash floods. Areas of risk are dam failures near rivers and heavily populated areas. During heavy rains the storm drains can flood roads and buildings. Low spots such as under ground parking garages and basements can become death traps.

  4. Causes of flash floods. Causes of flash floods are ice jams. Snowmeltsalso causes flash floods. Heavy spring rains also causes flash floods.

  5. Damage floods can do. Flash floods can destroy buildings and bridges. Flash floods can tear out big trees. Flash floods can roll huge boulders.
