(2007- present)

  9. Asian Pacific Islander Community Campaign Questions from campaign trails: What is United Way? Are you a government Agency? Why give to United Way? We have paid Taxes . United Way does not fund programs into our Communities. We do not have representative there. language and cultural barriers: Many segments in The Asian Pacific Islander communities: Chinese Japanese Vietnamese Korean India Pilipino and more

Differences and issues • Policies and service delivery systems – Gov. vs. NGO • Donor motivations – Tax laws, family own businesses • Values – Family help vs. Institutional Services • Attitude to Foreign Donations • Administration Cost for charitable organizations • Priority of the social problems: China - Education, financial support for health care, seniors service, disaster relief, Korean – Women’s Abuse Japan – Seniors Indonesia – disaster relief from tsunamis • Advocate and capacity building is important but not popular
