  9. Cont. • Book is divided into four parts • Part I: A Voyage To Lilliput • On his first voyage, Gulliver is washed ashore after a shipwreck and wakes to find himself a prisoner of a race of people one-twelfth the size of normal human beings

Part II • A Voyage to Brobdingnag • When the sea vessel Adventure is steered off course by storms and forced to go in to land for want of fresh water, Gulliver is abandoned by his companions and found by a farmer who is 80 feet tall • His daughter takes care of Gulliver • He endures adventures such as fighting giant wasps and being carried to the roof by a monkey

Part III • A Voyage to Laputa, Balnibarbi, Glubbdubdrib, Luggnagg and Japan • Gulliver's ship is attacked by pirates and he is stranded on a desolate rocky island • he is rescued by the flying island of Laputa, a kingdom based on the arts of music and mathematics but unable to use these for practical means. In it they describe a device as The Engine which is possibly the first literary description in history of something resembling a computer

Part IV • A Voyage to the Country of the Houyhnhnms • Gulliver was hesitant to return back to sea but does • his crew was captured by Dutch and Japanese pirates in order to force them to also become pirates • He is abandoned and meets a horse that speaks english • He is then rescued, against his will, by a Portuguese ship that returns him to his home in England
