  2. solitary – adjective – living, being, or going alone The Prisoner was placed in solitary confinement.

  3. territory – noun – any large area of land; region • The zoo needs a large territory for all of the animals to have room.

  4. nutrients – plural noun – substances need by the bodies of people, animals, or plants to live and grow Sometimes we get ill because we are not getting the proper nutrients.

  5. prehistoric – adjective – belonging to a time before people started recording history Prehistoric artists sometimes made cave paintings to tell a story.

  6. foragers-noun- those who search for food Deer are foragers because they search for their food.

  7. fierce-adjective – wild or menacing in appearance; strong The garden fence blew over as the fierce winds raged. -

  8. gesture- noun – the use of your limbs or body to express something. The old man made a kind gesture to the young lady for helping him cross the street.

  9. stammer- verb – to make involuntary stops and repetitions in speaking He would stammer whenever he had to give a speech in front of a large group

  10. muffled- verb – to wrap or pad with something to dull or keep down the sound The muffled laughter was coming from the back of the class.

  11. persistent- adjective- constantly repeated; persevering The little boy was persistent to do what he was told.

  12. sympathetic- a feeling of understanding and wanting to support Mrs. Jones was sympathetic to the fact that Johnny recently lost his dog.
