  2. “Equipping the Saints” What is the purpose? Split into four groups: • Ephesians 4:11-12 • Ephesians 4:15-16 • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 • Hebrews 13:20-21 Identify: • Audience • What role does equipping play? • What should be the outcome of equipping?

  3. Serve: • Childcare • Food/Snacks • Greeters • Leadership • Care: (Brad’s Session now) • Pre-Marital/Counseling • Hospital Visits • Meals (babies/funerals) • Mentoring • Reach: • Community/Global • Personal Strategies • Corporate Strategies • Community Strategies

  4. Engaging in Outreach What Mindset Should We Have? • The nature of the gospel message: • It is more than a presentation • It includes the involvement of our life • It is about initiating with a purpose • It is moving beyond a target to a relationship

  5. Engaging in Outreach What Mindset Should We Have? • Understanding physical thresholds: • How can we enter their territory? • How can we invite them into ours? • Learning how to break down barriers so that you can move from acquaintance to relationship

Engaging in Outreach What Mindset Should We Have? • Relating from a Strengths Position • Offering something you are good at • Ways that you can help/serve them • Fix cars, mow lawn, small repairs, move furniture, etc. • Pay attention to what is happening! • Share what you have (dirt, cookies, grass)

Engaging in Outreach What Mindset Should We Have? • Relating from a Needs Position • Most people are less comfortable with this • But non-believers like to help people too! • Invite them to speak into your circumstances • Borrow a tool, ask them for advice • Allow yourself to be served, they will let you serve them in return

Engaging in Outreach What Mindset Should We Have? • Understand the Power of Food • “Communion” normalizes relationships • Share from your garden • Make extra BBQ, cookies, crawfish • Work at relationship to invite them to dinner/coffee • Test out your connection by using, “Hey someday…” • The dining table will allow spiritual conversations to form naturally, around topics they view as important

  9. Engaging in Outreach What Mindset Should We Have? • Find a shared passion • What do you like to do? (bike, boat, garden, fish, sports, woodworking…) • What do they like to do…get interested! • This is especially important for the guys – we relate over doing stuff • Invite them to help reach the community • Service Project (Like Habitat, or Food Pantry)

  10. Personal Strategies Where Should I Start? • Become Available/Visible • Play in the front yard • Walk in the evenings • Find ways to have casual conversation • Use “disclosimony” • Don’t be weird!

  11. Personal Strategies Where Should I Start? • Use Prayer • Certainly pray for your neighbors/co-workers • But also offer to pray for others • On the spot • At a later time • Almost everyone appreciates the care shown

  13. Personal Strategies Where Should I Start? • Decide Which Strategy is Most Natural • Dinner Strategy • Block Party • Christmas/Easter Dessert • Game Day BBQ • Easter Parties/BYBC/Country Fair • Love and Respect, Griefshare, Celebrate Recovery

  14. Application Where Should I Start? • Which sphere of influence is most exciting as a ministry prospect? • Which personal strategy are you wanting to begin to pursue? • When will you begin? • What do you need to start?

  15. Application Where Should I Start? • Easy Place to Start: Adopt-An-Aggie (Int’l) • Reaching out to international students • Offer to students at Furniture Giveaway • 2 Students to dinner 1x/month • Get instructions on cultural norms/diet • adopt-an-aggie@grace-bible.org
