  3. Hand Washing • When everyone else is getting sick… • You want to stay well! • How do I do this? • WASH YOUR HANDS!

  4. Step 1 Assemble your supplies This means having adequate amounts of: Soap Water Paper Towels Trash Can Steps to Proper Hand Washing

  5. Steps to Proper Hand Washing Step 2 • Adjust water to warm (NOT HOT) • Wet Hands • Apply Soap and create a lather • ADD FRICTION – Scrub hands! • Scrub for a minimum of 15-20 seconds

  6. Steps to Proper Hand Washing Step 3 • Rinse Hands under warm water • Fingers pointing down as you rinse • Leave faucet running…

  7. Steps to Proper Hand Washing Step 4 • While faucet is still running… • Dry your hands on a paper towel and throw that away • Take a clean, dry paper towel and turn the faucet off • You may use that paper towel to open the door when leaving the restroom • Throw the towel away at the nearest trash can

  8. When should you wash your hands? • Before and after any patient care • Before and after eating • After going to the restroom • After coughing or sneezing • After picking up something off the floor • Basically….
