  1. Department of Applied Physics The Hong Kong Polytechnic University News & Events (2008-10~12) 10-02-2008:Welcome! Mr. WANG Hangdong has joined our group. Mr. Wang is now Ph.D. candidate in Zhejiang University. He will be working as a RA at PolyU for a period of six months. 10-04-2008:A papertitled “Novel gas sensoring materials based on CuS hollow spheres" (Authors - YU Xuelian, Y.Wang, C.B.Cao and H.L.W.Chan) is now available online – Microporous and Mesoporous Materials. 10-13-2008:Professor WU Wenbingave a talk titled “Shear-strain-induced domain structure and charge ordering in epitaxial manganite thin films". 10-19-2008:A papertitled “Influence of oxygen partial pressure on the structural and dielectric properties of Ba(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 thin films grown on (LaAlO3)0.3(Sr2AlTaO6)0.35 (001) using pulsed laser deposition," (Authors – D.Y.Wang, P.Yun, Y.Wang, H.L.W.Chan and C.L.Choy) is now available online – Thin Solid Films. 10-20-2008:Welcome “HOME”! Miss ZHOU Xiao-yuan came back to Hong Kong for the congregation to be held on Oct 23. She will then go back to her hometown, accompanied by a member of our group, for SOMETHING WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT. 10-23-2008:CONGRATULATIONS! Dr. ZHOU Xiao-yuan now. The 14th Congregation was held today, officially conferring doctoral degrees on over one hundred graduates including Zhou Xiao-yuan. Drs. WANG Yu and WANG Guoyu have witnessed the historical moment. Some photos here: Zhou Xiaoyuan, Zhou Xiaoyuan and Dr. Wang. 10-31-2008:Dr. Wang attended the microfluidic meeting in Nanjing and visited Professor Liu Junming’s lab in Nanjing University. Dr. Wang Kefeng kindly showed around NJU. 11-22-2008:CONGRATULATIONS! HU Yong-ming successfully passed the oral exam for Ph.D. degree.  Back to “News & Events” Page 1

Department of Applied Physics The Hong Kong Polytechnic University 11-24-2008:Dr. Wang visited the labs of Faculty of Physics and Electronic Technology of Hubei University and gave a talk titled “Size effects in perovskite-type ferroelectric oxides”. 12-05-2008:Welcome!Mr. FEI LinFengfrom USTC joins our group as a MPhil student. His research will be focusing on structural characterizations of nanomaterials. 12-17-2008:Department Christmas Party!All group members attended the party and some lucky guys (Wang Guoyu, Zhang Kai & Wang Hangdong) luckily got gifts in the lucky draw. 12-18-2008:Prof. Helen Chan and Dr. Wang paid a visit to Tsinghua University and met Profs. Li L.T., Gui Z.L., Nan C.W., Zhou J., Zhang Z.J., Li M. and Yue Z.X. This visit is part of the academic exchange activities related to a newly funded NSFC/RGC project. 12-23-2008:Bye! Prof. Chen Yongreturns to Paris today. During his stay in AP, he gave a lot of helpful advice to our microfluidics people. 12-25-2008:A papertitled “Optical properties of octahedral KTaO3 nanocrystalline” (Authors –ZOU Yanan, Y.M.Hu, H.S.Gu and Y.Wang) is now available online – Materials Chemistry and Physics. 12-29-2008:Welcome!Mr. CHENG Weifrom Wuhan University has arrived in Hong Kong. Mr. Cheng will be working on microfluidic systems. 12-30-2008:Welcome!Dr. GAO GuanYinfrom USTC has arrived in Hong Kong. Dr. Gao is an expert on thin films and heterostructures of perovskite-type metallic oxides. 12-31-2008:Welcome!Dr. HU YongMinrejoins our group. Dr. HU is now a lecturer in Hubei University. Dr. Hu will be mainly working on nanomaterials in Hong Kong. 12-31-2008:A papertitled “Synthesis and Magnetic Characterizations of Three-Dimensional Iron Sulfide Nanostructures" (Authors - YU Xuelian, Y.Wang, R.K.Zheng, J.F.Qu, H.L.W.Chan and C.B.Cao) is now available online – Crystal Growth and Design. ~~~~~HAPPY NEW YEAR!~~~~~  Back to “News & Events” Page 1
