  2. Character Analysis • The characters of a story are very important. • Characters create a story. • All characters have roles in a story, but sometimes only a few have major roles. • Creating a Character Analysis means looking at a character and seeing how that character is and how he/she as affected the story.

  3. Character Analysis • Look at the following diagram. The diagram shows what the main elements are of a character analysis. Name of character Character’s Role – how did he/she affect the story? Character’s Problems/Challenges – What problems did the character face? Major Accomplishments – What good or important things did the character do?

  4. Character Analysis Example: Tommy Tales Book 1 – The School Lunch Room Character 1 – Tommy Tommy is a friendly character who cares about his friend and dog. He is also very curious because he kept pressing the buttons on the clicker. Tommy is a very important character in this story. Without Tommy the story would not be interesting. Tommy pressed the buttons to make Lucy and Taffy disappear. Tommy was one of the causes of the problem in the story. If he wasn’t so curious then he wouldn’t have pressed the buttons and made Lucy and Taffy disappear. He also helped solve the problem by escaping from the door Taffy found.

  5. Character Analysis Example: Tommy Tales Book 1 – The School Lunch Room Taffy is a very intelligent dog. Taffy likes to play with Tommy and bring Tommy things he finds. Taffy finds many things and gets happy when he finds them. Taffy found the remote control that changed the story. If Taffy didn’t find the remote control, the story would have no problem or solution. Taffy also found the door that helped Tommy and Lucy solve the problem.
