  4. Captain Jaggery • The captain of the crew • Very punctual • Has bad reputation • Acts very courteous to Charlotte, but then is very cruel to the crewmembers • “You [Capt. Jaggery] remind me of my father.] p 46

  5. Mr. Grummage • Very punctual • Short temper • Pompous • “Mr. Grummage was, like my father, a gentleman.” • “Mr. Grummage was dressed in a black frock coat with a stove pipe hat that added to his considerable height.”

Zachariah • Lonely, wants to be friends with Charlotte Doyle • Black • Has many jobs - cook, surgeon, carpenter, preacher • Seems innocent • “cook, surgeon, carpenter, and preacher to man and ship. “ p 22 • “His clothing, what I could see of it, was even more decrepit than the previous sailor’s, which is to say, mostly rags and tatters.” p 21
