  4. DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS STUDENTS MUST PASS ALL TESTS REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF OHIO

  5. OHIO TESTS REQUIRED FOR GRADUATION Students must earn a cumulative score of 18 points, (4 points in Math, 4 points in English, and 6 points between Science & Social Studies). Students will take seven state end-of-course tests over four years of high school. End of Course exams are required for the following courses: • ELA 9 • ELA 10 • ALGEBRA I • GEOMETRY • BIOLOGY • AMERICAN HISTORY • AMERICAN GOVERNMENT ·

A Note About Earning Credits • Generally core courses are 1 credit unless noted. • Students are required to take 6 academic courses each semester in Grades 9 & 10; Students in Grades 11 & 12 are required to take 5 academic courses each semester. Note: students are required to take more courses than the graduation minimum. • Study Hall is recommended for students with a C average or lower.

  7. A Note About Earning Credits • To maintain eligibility athletes need to be passing at least 5 academic classes according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association (WWW.OHSAA.ORG). • Students may meet the PE requirement by participation in Athletics or Marching Band during high school. At the high school, appropriate documentation must be completed and returned to Student Services within 2 weeks of the end of the Athletic season. Students would need 2 waivers from athletics or marching band to meet the PE requirement.

  10. AP Courses Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board, which offers college-levelcurricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities often grant placement andcourse credit to students who obtain necessary scores on the examination, typically a score of 3, 4, or 5 will be credited. Who should take an AP course?

College Credit Plus • Program in which students are able to take college courses for both college and high school credit at no cost to the family. • Students and parents are required to attend an informational meeting detailing benefits and risks. • Application to the college is required. • Student must demonstrate he/she is “college ready” via qualifying ACT or ACCUPLACER (placement test used by LCCC & Tri-C) scores. • Students should be strong self-advocates; not afraid to ask questions about the process and are able to navigate scheduling courses on a college campus. • Most CCP courses are graded on a weighted scale; equal to AP courses

REQUIRED & ELECTIVE COURSE GUIDES • Appropriate required courses will be highlighted - if the required courses are not highlighted please contact your current teacher • Electives are listed on the back of the Required Course Guide • For some students taking orchestra and/or foreign language teacher recommendations may appear on the back of scheduling sheet • If your studentdid not take PE in both 7th AND 8th grades, or you do not plan to participate in either band or an AHS sport, you will need PE in high school - 2 semesters.

  16. A Note About Online Scheduling • Window for online course entry begins 2/4/19 and ends 2/14/19. • Username and password are your student’s Avon School’s network password and username.

  17. THE HIGH SCHOOL DAY • First Period begins at 8:10. • Most periods are 46-50 minutes. • Dismissal at 3:10. • Early Bird classes available begin at 7:15. • Students taking early bird start are expected to leave building at 2:17. • Students are not permitted to enroll in more than 7 classes per day.
