Career description and details • Multimedia Developers generate, manipulate and create graphics, images, animations, sound, text and video into integrated multimedia programs. • Multimedia Developers also must talk with clients to see what is required, investigate analyze and recommend appropriate equipment and software to achieve the clients' objectives. • Multimedia Developers can be self-employed, but many also developers are employed.

  3. Skills • Multimedia Developers incorporate animation, sound, video, and database functions to create dynamic experiences. • Multimedia Developers must be adaptable to many different situations, creative and artistic, patient and attentive to detail, and must have technical aptitude. • To be successful in this career you do not have to be a proficient musician. Your success relies on being talented in computer programming and developing, even though the experience of being a musician would help you understand your clients better.

  4. Education • To be successful, you want to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications from the college of your choice. Obtaining a degree in this field does not secure employment and or success. • You can obtain a two-year degree, but it will not be as beneficial to you as in you learn a lot less than a four year degree.

People may also need to build software for a pre-existing hardware. Aside from the music business, the multimedia developer can market to people who need programs for other purposes.

  9. Locations • This job is needed everywhere around the world! With technology and computers used everywhere, people are looking for faster and better ways to be organized, multi-task, and bring in revenue.

  11. Security and benefits • There are over 400,000 employed multimedia developers today. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that employment of multimedia developers will probably start to decline. • There is a great demand for Multimedia Developers because of the supply of computers.

  12. Salaries • According to the U.S Department of Labor, “(The) Median annual earnings of wage-and-salary computer programmers were $65,510 in May 2006. • The highest 10% earned over $106,000 • The lowest 10% earned less than $40,000

  13. Trends • As technology is always competitive and growing, there will always be a need for the Multimedia Developer. There will always be opportunities in and outside of the music business to take advantage of.

Benefits and retirement • Most Multimedia Developers are employed by a corporation or business that offers insurance and health care to their employees. • Personally I would address this issue by making sure that if I am employed, that my employment comes with some form of health care and insurance, even if this means making a little bit less on my salary.

  15. Flexibility • This career is projected to be in demand for years to come. Employment is projected to decline only 4% within the next decade. • Multimedia Developers can survive and be successful on just relying on their job.

  16. Pluses • Job security is high if employed. • Very innovative and creative job! • You can become successful just by creating a program that is innovative and easy to use!

  17. Minuses • Must know a vast majority of computer programming skills and know them to perfection. • Every situation requires something different and you must be adaptable to all situations while still maintaining creativity and innovation. • Must keep up with the industry standards that are chaging day by day.

  18. Summary • The Multimedia Developer is a excellent career of choice if you love to be creative and innovative in today’s technological standards. This field is in great demand and pays well if you enter it. To be successful in this field you must love the work you do and always be dedicated to getting better.
