Just like the previous addition unit, this contains many new processes and terms. If you have any questions about your child’s work at any point, please let me know. Reading: Our skill this week will be analyzing & evaluating character traits. We’ll use the story My Name is Gloria from our reading book to help us with this skill. Phonics: We’ll focus on the long /i/ sound made by the patterns i, igh, ie, y. We’ll also study antonyms. Writing: We’ll practice using the correct verb ending with a pronoun. Students will also begin working on our next type of writing, fictional narratives. Social Studies: We’ll look at the roles of our leaders at the local, state, and national levels and study their responsibilities. Science: We’ll explore the properties of solids. Parent Notes • As we enter the second part of our school year, we’ll work hard to help our students gain independence that will better prepare them for the upper elementary grades. Please help reinforce this at home by allowing your child to do as many things for themselves as possible. By giving them this independence at home, it will build a better understanding of responsibility that will carry over to school. • Our 2nd Quarter Awards Ceremony will be Wednesday, Jan. 29. Students will receive awards for A honor roll, A/B honor roll, perfect attendance, Terrific Kid, and the “BUG” award.
