  2. Main Motion • Purpose- To present an item of business for consideration AND action by the chapter • Only 1 Main Motion may be before the chapter at one time • Pertinent Facts: • A 2nd is required • Its ALWAYS debatable & Amendable • Requires a Majority Vote • May be reconsidered

  3. Main MotionHow to say… • President: “What is the next item of business” • Member: “Mr./Madam President.” (Recognition) “I Move that” • Member: “Mr/Madam President, I second the motion”

  4. Amend • Purpose- To modify the motion that is under consideration • Amendments are of 2 ranks- 1st & 2nd Rank • Pertinent Facts: • A 2nd is required • It is debatable when the motion to which it applies is debatable • A 1st rank amendment may be amended by an amendment of the 2nd rank • Requires a Majority Vote • May be reconsidered

  5. AmendHow to say… • Motion already before the chapter • Member: “Mr./Madam President.” (Recognition) “I Move to amend the main motion by…” • Member: “Mr/Madam President, I second the motion”

  6. 3 Ways to Amend • You can Move to Amend by Inserting words or paragraphs. • You can Move to Amend by Striking out (not deleting) words or paragraphs. • You can Move to Amend by Striking out andInserting words or paragraphs.

  7. Amend 1st & 2nd Degree • Motion “I Move to have peanuts allowed during school” • 1st Degree “I Move to have Peanuts allowed During Ag Class” • 2nd Degree “I Move to have peanuts allowed during Ag Class on Fridays”
