Hours: Full time Disclosure Level: Enhanced Accountable to: Principal / Governing Body Line Managed by: The Principal Line Management Responsibility:Finance Manager, Grant Applications Officer, Communications Manager & PA to the Principal, Facilities Manager, Head of ICT, Clerk to the Governors Overview - Role and Responsibilities: You will lead an already competent support team to become an outstandingly effective, cohesive support team (50% of our staff). You have integrity: you get your hands dirty when people are not looking, and you give good advice from experience. You are clever both ways – emotionally and intellectually. • Key Accountabilities • Be the member of the Academy’s Leadership Team responsible for the strategic direction of the business aspects of the Academy, including income generation. Take overall responsibility for the operational delivery of all financial, legal, human resources, IT, facilities and other business support functions and activities. • Income Generation • Drive income generation (at least £100K per year) by: • Identifying and securing funds through grant funding, managing the Grant Applications Officer • Developing business opportunities including social enterprise opportunities linking directly to students’ aspirations • Developing possibilities for external sponsorship • Developing an extensive lettings programme of Academy facilities • Work with the Academy Leadership Team and other key staff to identify funding priorities and opportunities • Communications • HR • Assist the Principal in dealing effectively and sensitively with difficult personnel issues • Ensure rigorous line management of all associate staff, including those directly reporting to you, produces a highly effective and proactive associate staff force Applications by Friday 3rd May; interviews in May; appointment by 31st May In post 1st September 2013

Job Description Partnerships • Be the Academy’s Leadership Team representative with Parent Voice, helping them to raise substantial sums of money for Academy student enrichment • Liaise with the Bourne Ambassadors and generate and oversee continuously developing business links • Be the key Academy contact for Bournemouth Borough and Dorset County Councils Marketing • Consistently promote The Bourne Academy in all activities and at all relevant forums • Work with the Marketing Officer to ensure maximum positive coverage in local media and through internally produced documentation, e.g. the newsletter and prospectus • Strategic Financial Management • Working with the Finance Manager (a chartered accountant): • Be responsible for overall financial, resource and asset management, including the development of strategy, effective business planning, and systems for effective financial, policy and process management within the Bourne Academy • Drive robust systems for financial and business planning, budgeting and financial controls throughout the Academy, advising and supporting the Academy leadership team, governors, heads of departments and other budget holders accordingly • Effectively monitor the financial, funding and business performance of the Academy against agreed strategic and operational plans and target, set both nationally (e.g. DfE, EFA) and locally (e.g. the Academy, Bournemouth Borough Council, other local strategic partnerships) • Ensure regular, accurate and timely submission of financial returns to funding bodies, Teachers Pension Agency, Charity Commission, Companies House, HMRC, and other statutory and regulatory authorities • Carry out regular monitoring and reconciliation of actual committed income and expenditure, and accurate cash flow projections, investigating and reporting on variances, ensuring that necessary adjustments are made or remedial action taken as appropriate • Lead on the production of annual budgets, and three to five year medium-term financial planning and projections, including estimates of main funding from government and other income, from actual and projected pupil numbers data and prepare funding submissions accordingly • Overall responsibility for update, ongoing review and implementation of the Academy’s financial regulations manual and compliance with guidelines as set out in the Academies Financial Handbook. Ensuring tendering and contract compliance and that all other statutory and professional requirements are met • Keep under review and report on developments in financial administration and management information in the public, charity and private sectors which may contribute to improvements in efficiency efficacy of financial administration and corporate governance in the Academy • Make effective arrangements for internal auditing and external auditing of the Academy’s financial records and annual accounts, arranging and reporting individual audits and implementation of actions in response to auditor’s reports and recommendations Applications by Friday 3rd May; interviews in May; appointment by 31st May In post 1st September 2013

Job Description • Advise the Academy leadership team and Governors on liabilities for taxation and make arrangements for returns and payments to be made, liaising with HMRC and other agencies where appropriate • Report to, inform, advise and support the Finance Committee and Full Board of Governors on financial, audit and related matters. To include responsibility for the servicing of governors meetings, agreeing and advanced circulation of agenda and papers, clerking of meetings and follow up of actions agreed at meetings of the governors. • Facilities • Lead on all aspects of risk management and control, including maintaining adequate and effective insurance and risk assurance for the Academy, its assets and resources ensuring value for money and effective resolution of claims • Advise on, implement and provide support for measures, which safeguards and maximises the security of the Academy’s estate, property, resources and cash • ICT • Ensure that contracted ICT services deliver fit for purpose ICT across the Academy • Advise the Academy’s leadership Team on ICT infrastructure matters • Ensure smooth running of ICT throughout the Academy, managing the internal IT support team to achieve outstanding teaching and administrative functions of the Academy • Supporting Governance and Statutory Compliance • Support and promote sustainable and improving governance arrangements • Ensure that the Academy implements all of its statutory requirements including corporate governance, Health & Safety, Disability and Diversity regulations • Remain conversant with and aware of national and local developments and initiatives affecting the business operations of the Academy, including changes to and reform of education / academies funding mechanisms. To provide the Principal and Chair of Governors with timely updates and implications for the Bourne Academy of any proposed changes • Provide clear, timely and accurate information and advice to the Principal, Chair of Governors, the Academy Leadership Team, and Governing Body to enable proper considerations of business management, and assured decision-making • Ensure that all corporate governance policies and guidelines, including risk management, HR, equal opportunities, disability, and data protection, are maintained in compliance with legislation, national and local guidance and directives, are implemented effectively across the Academy, and are reviewed regularly • General • Mentor one or more students • Perform any other duties commensurate with the post as determined from time to time Applications by Friday 3rd May; interviews in May; appointment by 31st May In post 1st September 2013

The right individual will be intelligent, both emotionally and intellectually, who can look forwards and outwards to develop and champion innovative solutions.
