Airport Facts • Located in Erie County, New York. • Buffalo Municipal Airport opened in 1939. • Renovated in 1955. • Decided in 1991 to build new airport instead of continually renovating current airport. • New airport opened in 1997 with 14 gates. • Today there are 26 gates. • Has double the air traffic than any other airport in upstate New York. • Recent incidents • February 12, 2006—Colgan Air Flight 3047 crashed in transit to BUF from Newark
