The folk performers sing and dance to narrate the stories of the epic battles and gallantries. Music and dance are the two main things enjoyed in this event. Why it is celebrated in Jodhpur of all the Rajasthani cities is because it used to be the capital of the Marwar region during the times of yore. Our luxury desert camp in Rajasthan is near the city of Jodhpur where there are many museums which have a lot of information about the great battles that were fought by the valiant Rajputs of Marwar during the times of yore.  Originally known as the Maand Festival, this vibrant festival takes place during the full moon of Sharad Poornima in the Hindu month of Ashwin which comes in the period of September and October of the Gregorian calendar. The performances that take place at the Marwar Festival each year Since music and dance are the highlights of this event each and every year, you will get to experience various folk dance forms at their very best at this fest. Here are some of the iconic dance forms to look forward to in the great festival of Marwar - Dandi Gair - A very popular group dance form of the native tribe Bhil, Dandi Gair is performed with sticks. The women of the tribe adorn beautiful bright skirts while men can be seen in red tunics and saffron-colored turbans. This is one of the main highlights of the Marwar festival of Jodhpur, Rajasthan that you ought to see otherwise you will miss out on an experience of a lifetime. Kalbelia - You must have seen the Kalbelia dancers performing in the Thar desert before. Kalbelia is the local snake charmer community of Rajasthan. Women wear dresses adorned with Gotta Patti work along with other glittery embellishments and emulate the movements of a snake while men play local instruments such as a flute or a shehnai in the background. The whole performance is extremely captivating and enticing. Bhavai Chari - Have you ever seen the Rajasthani local women balancing brass pots and earthenware on the heads and yet busting some amazing moves? This local dance form is called Bhavai and Vhari. If you have always wondered about the meaning of the songs women sing in the vernacular language, they are actually telling you about their struggle to search for water in the desert.
