  2. TSCA • Toxic Substances Control Act • This National Act was drafted in 1976. • Amendments in 1986 (Asbestos hazard reduction in schools) and in 1988 (Provided funds to indoor-radon reducing programs. • This requires chemical manufacturers to provide data before having their product released to the masses. • In general, this act prevents the environmental issue of potentially-harmful chemicals from being mass-produced and harming the environment, through the screening process. • The EPA enforces this act and takes care of all the regulation.

  3. CITES • Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species • This International regulation was put into practice in 1975. • Amendment in 1983 (Allowed regional economic blocs to accede to the treaty) • This prevents the trading of endangered species, which add up to around 34,000. • This regulation deals with the environmental issue of endangered species. • The United Nations is meant to govern over this but the enforcement is really left to the individual nations, which many do a poor job at, if they even try.

  4. Lacey Act • This National law was passed in 1900 by Congress • Amended in 2008, to expand protection to broader range of plants, and in 2012 to ban transportation of 4 kinds of constrictor snakes. • This act was passed to protect both plants and wildlife by creating civil and criminal penalties for a wide array of violation, it was developed to prohibit illegal trade of plants, animals, and other wildlife. • This law is administered by the Departments of Interior, Commerce, and Agriculture

  5. Endangered Species act • Originally drafted in 1973 as a National law • Amended: 1982 to prohibit consideration of economic factors, 1985 to ensure that the Secretary must take step to implement the Western Convention, and in 1988 to monitor the candidates and recovering species as a requirement • It was designed to protect critically imperiled species from extinction as a "consequence of economic growth and development untempered by adequate concern and conservation.“ • It is administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
