  1. Visioning4/13/19 at EUUC Rev. TandiRogers, facilitator About 20 SUUC participants (Catherine Crain adapted some of Tandi’s slides to summarize the meeting.)

  2. Goals for the Day • Refreshed understanding of the purpose of Shoreline UU Church. • Refreshed understanding of the SUUS’s mission and the religious imperatives that it implies. • Discernment of SUUS’s values. • Analysis of our assets and opportunities. • Possible goals and success measurements to go with them. • Sense of direction. • Connection with other siblings in faith.

  3. Clarifying Our Important Values • We had a big list of potential values (e.g. community, courage, fairness, justice) and each table had to choose 10 that reflected why they come to SUUC and why they stay at SUUC • We then talked about which of these values could be an antidote for the evils of the world • We tried to come to consensus in the room for the values that we agreed were the most important • We made these into a statement and came up with: COURAGEOUS, VISIONARY, COLLABORATIVE LEADERS

  4. COURAGEOUS, VISIONARY, COLLABORATIVE UU LEADERS • What does it mean to be ___ in today's world? • What do you need to be ___ in today's world? • How could the congregation support you being ___? • If our goal and purpose of was to support you being ___ in today's world, what could that look like?

  5. Questions to Get Us There • What 3 assets do we currently possess to get us there? • What 3 things do we need to learn to get there? • What 3 things, if we stopped doing them or saying “yes” to them, would get us closer to there? • What 3 people/agencies could we partner with to us there? • What hymns shall we sing while we journey there?

  6. The Day’s Big Ideas • We want to be COURAGEOUS, VISIONARY, COLLABORATIVE LEADERS • Our assets include our buildings, our people, our generosity/financial assets, and our faith • We want to leverage our assets to help heal the world, especially in these dark times • We need to learn humility, focus, and the needs of the community • There were lots of specific ideas and potential partners we might work with • We were a small group and need to get more ideas and buy-in from the larger congregation

  7. Next Steps • Present to the congregational meeting • Possibly include discussions of these ideas in fall house meetings • Ask committees and groups such as Chalice Circles and Neighborhood groups to look at these ideas and provide feedback • Have small group conversations after church during the summer to look at and comment on these ideas • The Board of Trustees or a task force will see if our current mission and vision statement is consistent with the work that comes out of these meetings • If need be, we will do a draft revision of the Mission/Vision statements to reflect these new ideas and present to the congregation at a meeting next year.
