  2. Software • With the amount of software being made available with the home office in mind, it is extremely easy to conduct business from home • Current software is necessary to compete with the modern world • Software creates an atmosphere of benefits, efficiency, and protection

  3. Protection • Protection from viruses and SPAM is key to successful operation • Services such as virus protection, SPAM guards and firewalls are offered through subscriptions to companies such as Symantec and McAfee (Smart 2004)

  6. Microsoft • Number one software manufacturer by sales (Hoovers 2005) • Office – Software package with programs created for: • Word Processing • Data Management • Spreadsheets • Presentations • Email

  7. Benefits to Working at Home • Reduced Costs • Reduce gas costs by avoiding commuting • Less office space needed = Less rent paid (MacCleod 2003) • Convenience • Workers can make their own hours • Workers are able to multitask easier

  8. Possible Disadvantages • Lack of camaraderie between coworkers • Distractions found at home • Possible missed deadlines or uncompleted work • Using home computers for personal use can expose the Hard Disk to unnecessary dangers (Smart 2004)
