  1. Prokaryotes &Eukaryotes Cell Structure Review IAN pg. 81 • MAIN IDEAS • Prokaryote 11. Bi-Lipid Layer 20. Lysosome • Eukaryote 12. Nucleus 21. Golgi Body • Organelle 13. Nucleolus • Cell Wall 14. Cell Wall • Cell Membrane 15. Chloroplast • Cytoplasm 16. Large Vacuole • DNA 17. Vesicle • Nucleoid 18. Endoplasmic • Ribosome Reticulum • Organelles 19. Mitochondrion

  2. II. All Organisms are divided into one of two types of cells A. Prokaryotes(Bacteria) ( Pro – Before, karyon – Nucleus ) -NO NUCLEUS! –NO Membrane enclosed organelles! 1. Cell Wall-outer covering;supports cell structure and provides physical protection.

  3. 2. Cell Membrane-outer covering of cytoplasm.

  4. 3. Cytoplasm-jelly-like material where most cell processes take place (It’s the filling)

  5. 4. DNA -Deoxyribonucleic Acidlarge molecule in the central area; controls cellular processes a. Nucleoid – DNA floating free in the cytoplasm

  6. 5. Ribosome -structure responsible for making proteins

  7. B. Eukaryotes(Plant, Animal & Fungi) ( Eu – True, karyon – Nucleus ) Organelles – membrane bound “organs” of the cell. Membrane = Bi-lipid Layer (Fats!) Includes all the structures found in Prokaryotes plus: HYDRO = Water Philic = attracts water Phobic = repels water

  8. 1. Nucleus- “The Brain” houses the DNA molecule which controls cell processes

  9. a. Nucleolus – Dense structure of DNA found inside the nucleus of the cell.

  10. 2. Cell Wall-(plant and fungi cells) supports the structure of the cell 3.Chloroplast-(plant cell) makes glucose using sunlight

  11. 4. Large Vacuole-(plant cell) stores water or food

  12. 5. Vesicle –transportsproteins or stores water or food.

  13. 6. Endoplasmic Reticulum-packages & moves proteins and chemicals around the cell (Post Office)

  14. 7. Mitochondrion-produces energy molecules = ATP (Adenosine triphosphate)

  15. 8. Lysosomes-(animal cell) attach to vacuoles to break down (digest) the contents

  16. 9.Golgi Body - prepares, stores & transports chemicals throughout the cell.
