  1. Advanced Juvederm Treatments by Nu Image Medical Esthetics: Part 1 You’ve heard of Juvederm. It’s made of hyaluronic acid, a substance produced naturally in your body. You may also know that in Regina, Saskatchewan, our Nu Image doctors and nurses have been using Juvederm since 2003.

  2. Juvederm has just taken a giant leap forward! Before we let you in on our secrets, here’s a little behind the scenes context. History of Juvederm It all started in 1934. Who would have thought that hyaluronic acid has been around for over 70 years? Kudos go to Karl Meyer and John Palmer, two medical researchers at Columbia University. Believe it or not, they first isolated hyaluronic acid from the eye of a cow. They found that the two main functions of hyaluronic acid are skin hydration and plumping. The name also has a history: The Greek word “hyalos” meaning glass plus “uronic” meaning sugar = hyaluronic acid. Bakers used hyaluronic acid in the 1940s. The medicinal use came about in the 1990s when doctors used it for joint pain and wound treatment. As far as faces go, the first uses of hyaluronic acid waited until 1996.

  3. Fast Forward to Juvederm Many skin treatments contain hyaluronic acid. The Dermatology Review offers some insight on a variety of uses. Many clinical trials were conducted to evaluate safety and value before the product was approved for use in the United States by the FDA in 2006. Read More
