  7. Formative assessment Occurs while the topic is being taught, provides diagnostic information on specific mistakes and misconceptions, leads to instructional adaptations. Summative assessment The process of evaluating (and grading) the learning of students at a point in time. Accountability decisions are derived from summative assessment data.
