  2. Main Points • A country ruled by a single leader. The leader has not been elected and may use force to keep control. • In a military dictatorship, the army is in control.

  3. Leaders of the Country • Kim II Sung – founder of North Korea, the country’s only president. • Kim Jong-il – Current leader of country. Took over in 1994 when his father died. His official title is “Chief of State”

  4. How to Change government • Most military dictatorships are formed after a coup has overthrown the previous government. So in order to change the current form of government a group of people with same ideas/beliefs would need to form a coup and try to overthrow the current dictators of the government

  5. Consent of the governed • Elections are held every 5 years. • 3 branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial • Some positions are elected, and some are appointed by the government or current ruling party.

  6. Do government leaders follow the rule of law? • We couldn’t find an answer to this. • Most likely not because the government is ruled by a family.
