  3. Animal Classification The Animal Kingdom is divided into two main groups: Vertebrates-Animals with a backbone and Invertebrates-Animals without a backbone

  4. Vertebrates The animals with backbones are divided into five more groups: Mammals Birds Reptiles Amphibians Fish

  5. Invertebrates *Animals without a backbone *Most animals are invertebrates *There are many more types of invertebrates than vertebrates

  8. Mammals • Give birth to live young • Feed their babies with their own milk • Are more or less covered with hair • Are warm-blooded

  9. Birds • Have feathers • Lay eggs • Are warm-blooded

  10. Reptiles • Have a dry skin covered with scales • Lay eggs • Cold-blooded

  11. Amphibians • Are able to live on land as well as in water • Have a smooth moist skin • Lay eggs • Are cold-blooded

  12. Fish • Have a moist skin covered in scales • Breathe through gills • Lay eggs (some give birth to live young) • Are cold-blooded

  13. What Am I???Mammal, Bird, Reptile, Amphibian, or Fish? • I am a fish. My body is cold to touch and covered in scales. I lay eggs. I use gills to breathe with underwater.
