  1. Meet the Champions Juanita Petersen Lentz 2nd Flight

  2. Juanita Petersen Lentz2nd Flight • When did you begin golfing? • In the late 1980s, my stay-at-home-mom friends started taking lessons when our kids started school. I was taking tennis lessons then and thought golf was for “old people” only. For wanting to be with my friends, I took a couple of lessons with the golf pro. After a few lessons, the pro said I could try playing 9 holes with other beginners to get a feel of actual distances. I was so excited! Alas, on the very first hole, I needed 18+ strokes (mostly air shots!) to sink the ball in! I dropped golf for almost a year after that. • Current or Former Profession • I manage the financial and administrative side of a family business that sells water packaging materials, water-filling equipment.

  3. Juanita Petersen Lentz2nd Flight • In what other hobbies/interests are you involved ? • Tennis, reading newspapers online from countries where I have family, playing Scrabble with 86-year-old Mom, karaoke singing, container gardening, traveling when I can.

  4. Juanita Petersen Lentz2nd Flight • What is your favorite course to play? • I look at it this way: I love the sport now even if I’m not regularly at it. I play where time and special rates allow me! Ventura Golf Club is 15 minutes away, so I play more often there than other courses. I try to play as much as I can at Metrowest with Carla Bitterling’s 9 ‘n Dine group. The most beautiful I’ve played lately was at Ross Bridge in Birmingham, part of the Robert Trent Jones trail. The Seniors Tour just had the last day of their tournament the day before, so it was really at its best. • What is your favorite club in your bag? • 7 iron

  5. Juanita Petersen Lentz2nd Flight • Have you advanced to either Semi or Final Championship level previously? If so, tell us about your experience. • I started participating last year and didn’t do well. This year, was only able to join thanks to support of lots of ladies, especially Ginger Simpson’s last-minute maneuvering. I didn’t win first place, by the way. The winner, Barb Michalek, happens to have her cruise vacation already paid and scheduled for July 10, so she had to decline. Being second place gave me entry. The irony of it all is, if I didn’t participate (or get a decent score), Ginger may well have been on the road to this semi-final!This is my first, but not my last. It has encouraged me to keep golfing, something I have done only twice from November last year to early May this year ‘cause of injuries and workload.

  6. Juanita Petersen Lentz2nd Flight • What good luck charm or special routine will you use at the Semi-final/Final rounds? • Probably I should follow what my elementary school teacher said: Give a basket of eggs to the nuns so it won’t rain! • How did you become involved with the EWGA? • Wanted to meet working and golfing ladies to see how they squeeze golf into their working lives.
