  1. 1-1 Using a Problem-Solving Plan

  2. Four Step Problem-Solving Plan • Step 1: Explore • Read carefully • What do I know? • What do I need to know? • Is there enough to solve the problem? • Is there extra information?

  3. Step 2: Plan • Reread to identify relevant facts • Determine how the facts relate to one another • Make a plan to solve the problem • Estimate the answer

  4. Step 3: Solve • Use your plan to solve the problem • If your plan does not work, revise it or make a new one by asking “What did I do wrong?”

  5. Step 4: Examine • Reread the problem • Ask, “Is my answer reasonable and close to my estimate?” • Ask, “Does my answer make sense?” • If not, solve the problem another way.
