  2. The Experiment • Investigate the difference of healthy sleep vs sleep deprivation. • By sleeping healthily (9 hours) everyday. • And cataloging how my health felt everyday.

  3. Why is Sleep Deprivation Important?

  4. …Because… • It affects many of us as it is very prevalent in our society today. • When it happens to one of us the affects can be horrible even torturous. • People affected with sleep deprivation miss out on the many benefits of healthy sleep.

  5. The Prevalence of Sleep Deprivation • It’s a problem millions of people struggle with. • It affects approximately 20% of all Americans. • A study in a Hong Kong University showed 60% of students not having enough sleep. • Another study in a different university showed 76.6% of students involved having occasional sleep problems. • Just an example of how prevalent sleep deprivation is.

  6. Effects of Sleep Deprivation • It’s not just feeling tired when not having enough sleep. • A number of mental and physical problems are linked from this. • Decreased memory, decrease in life quality, decreased alertness and performance, etc. • Can lead to worse conditions like insomnia.

  7. The Benefits of Healthy Sleep • An essential part of mental and physical health. • Memory greatly improved with good sleep so you can do better in school. • More energy to do what you want. • Way more alert when you need to be.

  8. What are the facets of living well? • Healthy sleep is one of those facets. • It’s a foundation of your health as a whole. • It recharges your body so you can be at maximum capability. • It helps maintain your body so you don’t collapse. • Your health is not well without healthy sleep.

  9. So get good sleep… so you don’t end up like this guy!
