  3. What was Righteousness of Pharisees? • Jews believed all truth was in the law • Scribes interpreted the law which resulted in the Oral Law • Luke 11:46, Acts 15:10

  4. They became legalists • They were hypocritical in their judgments, Matthew 23, Luke 11:46 • Gave minute attention to details while omitting weightier matters, Matthew 23:23 • Elevated interpretations to level of law

  5. Righteousness must exceed • Proper motivation, heart • From the inner man • Involves: • Right object – pleasing God • Right authority – God’s Word • Right actions drawn from right motives
