  2. Facts • The ash tree is native to Ireland • Hurleys are made from the butt of the tree • 75% of all ash used for hurleys has to be imported • Ash is also used to make tennis rackets, snooker cues, walking sticks and handles of hammers • Some ash trees suffer from a disease called ashback

  3. The Ash Tree • The ash wood is hard and tough and flexible. • It is light in colour. • The leaves on the ash tree is narrow and they are yellow and brown in colour. • The flower on the ash tree is purple and has no petals. • This is the seed of an ash tree

  4. Names • Latin name = faxius • Irish name = fuiseog POEM If the oak be out before the ash the summer will be a splash, If the ash be out before the oak the summer will be a soak.
