  1. Darron Walker Matthew Thibodeaux Scientific notation

  2. Plato Plato was a philosopher from Greece Born in 427 BC Born into wealthy family Influenced by Socrates

  3. Lesson • Scientific notation is used to express the size of really big numbers such as • 1,111,000,000,000 • Or really small numbers like this • 0.00000000000012 • The way the first & second number would look is this • 1.111x10¹² 1.2x10¯¹³

  4. Explanation 1 • You can do this by if the number is in standard form exp. 1,000,000 just count how many decimal places to the LEFT (if it’s a whole number) until you get the decimal behind the first number

  5. Explanation 2 • You’re probably are wondering why the decimal has a negative exponent its because they are less then one and need to use numbers to represent numbers less than one exp. • 0.00009 is less than 1.00000

  6. Put into scientific notation • 1,000 • 3.0x10³
