  1. Mineral content • TOF-SIMS Caries activity 4. • POLMI & photo • Micro-radiography 7. 5. • SEM (gold coated)

  2. Description • Teeth stored in NaCL and washed in etanol and then dried in air. • Artificiell caries with lactate acid (Ten Cate et al 1996). Caries in a window of 4mm length, other surfaces covered with nailpolish. Section with caries stored in 37˚for 5 weeks. • Teeth cut, producing 2xsections 120μm and one bulk of the rest, with Leitz microtome saw • Polarized light microscopy, photo and microradiographs, for examination of mineralization of the caries lesion. • Section sputtercoated with gold for examination in SEM, where the topography is to be analyzed. • Section sputtercoated with carbon for examination in EDAX for carbon, oxygen, phosphorous and calcium - in and outside the lesion, making analyses possible intra and inter the different enamel specimen. • Enamel from the bulkspecimen of the slowest, medium and fastest caries activity (found out in 4.), polished with a diamond, for further mineral analysis as fluor and carbon.

  3. EDX Surface Caries lesion Enamel Dentin Circle area analysis (inter enamel analysis) Line-scan (intraenamel analysis)
